Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provided data and results from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS). The data helps to identify the causes of death and disability among youth and adults and related to health behaviors. The behaviors range from lack of physical activity to unintentional injury and violence. The results also focus on other health factors such as obesity and asthma in addition to sexual identity.

The purposes of the YRBSS is to determine frequency of health behaviors, if there is a change in those behaviors over time, and monitor progress and indicators of goals being achieved.

The YRBSS collects data on a national, state, territorial, and tribal government level and also uses survey samples from students in 9th-12th grade.
